Responding to Sizopoulos’s objection to Christou’s participation in the Defence Committee

With a press release, ELAM comments on the opposition of the president of EDEK, Marinos Sizopoulos, regarding the participation of the president of ELAM in the Defence Committee.
“It is clear that the President of EDEK seeks to impress, trying to make up lost ground from the Parliamentary elections and the loss of the 4th place by ELAM,” states ELAM.
Regarding the participation of Christos Christou in the Defence Committee, ELAM states that: “There are no legal or ethical reasons for the expulsion of a Member of Parliament from a specific committee, let alone the President of a Parliamentary Party, therefore Mr. Sizopoulos’ request has no authority to exclude anyone from the Defence Committee. Let alone the participation of Mr. Christou who has previously submitted before the Plenary Session of the House of Representatives the medical certificates of his legal exemption from the ranks of the National Guard by the Ministry of Defence.”
“Furthermore, if it is decided that there should be criteria for the Committee on Defence, then there should be criteria for all parliamentary committees accordingly.”
At the same time, let us express our strongest concerns about the participation of EDEK MPs in the Defence Committee, a party that had an excellent relationship with Akis Tsochatzopoulos, PASOK Minister of Defence, “brother” party of EDEK and a person who had been convicted for scandals of millions, with embezzlement of public money for purchases of weapon systems in Greece and Cyprus.”
“To conclude, Mr. Sizopoulos will take all responsibility if he does not proceed to a meeting of this committee as soon as possible, as he will be entirely responsible for important issues that are pending in the field of defence.”
