Preliminary examinations for candidates’ admission to Military Academies for 2021 – 2022 – TABLES

The Ministry of Defence announces that the preliminary examinations for admission to the Officers’ and Non-Commissioned Officers’ Military Academies in Greece will take place as follows:

  • HEALTH EXAMINATION:

1.1 It will be conducted by the Health Committee at 106 SNE (Military Hospital), located at Camp B. KAPOTA, in Aglantzia, from April 13-21, 2021.    

Candidates should arrive at the camp from 07:30 a.m. until 11:30 am, according to their ID number as shown below:

1.2 During their presentation before the Health Committee, the candidates should present the following health examinations that they have recently done, either in a State Hospital, or in a private clinic or laboratory (Health Cards are not accepted), together with the completed Health Examination Form (Appendix A)

   (1) Full blood count, urea, sugar, creatinine, transaminases, hemoglobin and urine tests with a doctor’s diagnosis.

   (2) FACE chest x-ray with a doctor’s diagnosis.

   (3) Electrocardiogram, with a doctor’s diagnosis stating that the candidate may participate in sports tests. 

   (4) Ophthalmological examination recording of the visual acuity and the degree of refractive error of each eye, the presence or absence of discoloration and the presence of disease or condition with a doctor’s diagnosis.

   (5) Otolaryngological examination and audiogram with a doctor’s diagnosis.

   (6) Gynecological examination (only for female candidates) with a doctor’s diagnosis (stating that the candidate does not suffer from any problem of gynecological nature).

  (7) A signed statement declaring that the candidate does not use drugs (ANNEX B).

ATTENTION: IF CANDIDATES DO NOT PROVIDE A COMPLETED HEALTH EXAMINATION FORM AND THEIR IDENTITY CARD, THEY WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. EXAMINATIONS MUST BE RECENT (NOT DONE MORE THAN 1.5 MONTHS AGO).

1.3 The Body Mass Index (BMI) of the candidates, i.e. the quotient of the candidate’s body weight in kg in relation to their squared height in meters should be between 19 to 27 kg/m2 for men and 18 to 25 kg/m2 for women. For example, if the candidate is 1.75m tall and weighs 74 kg, their BMI is 74 / (1.75×1.75) = 24.16 (Attached Table with height-weight limits) (Appendix C

1.4 Candidates must be healthy, able-bodied and not have tattoos on visible parts of their body that are not covered by the summer uniform (for women the summer uniform includes a knee-length skirt). 

1.5 Those candidates who fail the Health Examination have the right to submit an objection in writing to the Health Examination Committee, immediately after the oral announcement of the results, in order to be re-examined on the same day at the SNE.

  1. SPORTS TEST

2.1 The Sports Test will be held at Makareios Stadium in Nicosia for all the candidates deemed suitable by the Health Committee. Attendance shown on the table below.

2.2 During the Sports Test, the candidates must wear sports clothes and shoes.

2.3 The following table shows the races and the score limits per race and academy that the candidate must achieve (regardless of gender) in order to pass the test:

Candidates are entitled to one (1) attempt for the races and three (3) attempts for jumps and throws. Especially for shot put, in a total of three (3) attempts with each hand, the candidates must achieve an overall score (with right and left hand) of at least 9m for the academies in column 3 or 8,80m for the academies of column 4 in the above table.

2.4 Entry to the track by persons other than the candidates themselves is prohibited.

2.5 Candidates who do not show up on the specified date and time or do not achieve the specified minimum score in any event or leave at any phase of the test because of their own fault will be deemed to have failed. In case a candidate has applied both to academies for which he / she is required to compete in swimming (Hellenic Naval Academy, Air Force Academy/Pilots’ Department/Officers’ Military Academy) and in another academy and fails only in swimming, then he / she is considered to have failed only for the academies requiring success in swimming.

2.6 Candidates may take part in a supplementary sports test, which will be held on 16.04.2020, in the following cases:

2.6.1 If before the start or during any phase of the test (but not when the candidate has already started a specific race and after successfully completing the previous one), invoked health reasons, or suffered an injury, following a diagnosis by the Physician of the Sports Test Committee confirming that the candidate may take part in a supplementary test.

2.6.2 If the candidates do not present themselves at the specified date and time so as to undergo the examination, for various serious reasons, and following the approval of a relevant request by the Ministry of Defence.

  1. SWIMMING

3.1 The swimming test will be held at the Nicosia Swimming Pool for the candidates of the Hellenic Navy Academy, the Air Force Academy/Pilots’ Department, who will have been deemed suitable by the Health Committee.

 3.2 The presentation of candidates with surname initial M-Z will take place on Monday 26.04.2021 at 9:00 am.

3.3 The presentation of candidates with surname initial A-L will take place on Tuesday 27.04.2021 at 9:00 am.

  1. PSYCHOTECHNICAL TEST (ABSTRACT REASONING AND CRITICAL THINKING WRITTEN EXAMINATION)

4.1 The Psychotechnical Test will be conducted for all the candidates who have successfully passed the Sports test on Thursday 06/05/2021. For attendance details, please follow our website.   

4.2 Candidates should bring blue pens with them.

  1. Candidates who have applied to the Ministry of Education and Culture so as to claim a position in the Officers’ Military Academies and the Non-Commissioned Officers’ Military Academies of Greece for the academic year 2021-2022 must come to the venues on the specified hours. All candidates should have their ID Card in order to be accepted. Their absence from the preliminary examinations automatically cancels their application for admission to the above academies.
  2. The results of the preliminary examinations will be posted on the website of the Ministry of Defence (www.mod.gov.cy) by 21.05.2021.
  3. All the candidates who will take part in the Preliminary Examinations for admission to the Military Academies of Greece are informed that upon their arrival and before the Health Examination and the Sports Test they will undergo a COVID-19 rapid antigen detection test in the Examination / Test area. Candidates below 18 years old must submit the Declaration (Appendix E), properly completed. Candidates who successfully pass the Sports Test will need to make sure that they take a coronavirus test themselves within 72 hours before the test and submit the relevant form.
