A counter-terrorism exercise was conducted on Friday by the Special Missions Unit of the Central Port Authority of Piraeus.

The scenario, which unfolded at the Piraeus Port Authority cruise terminal, involved a simulated terrorist attack within the station premises.

According to the exercise plan, an improvised explosive device was discovered in a passenger’s backpack. The perpetrator was apprehended by the Piraeus Special Operations Unit, and the device was rendered safe by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team.

The exercise was attended by the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Vassilis Kikilias, the Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs Stefanos Gikas, and the Chief of the Hellenic Coast Guard, Vice Admiral Tryfonas Kontizas.
