According to a statement of the British Base (BB) in Cyprus, two members of the British Armed Forces have been infected by the new coronavirus COVID-19.

The two members, a man and a woman serving at the Royal Air Force (RAF) in Akrotiri, returned from the United Kingdom on March 13 via Paphos Airport and entered self-restraint while, at the same time, they gave samples for examinations.

“The Joint Health Services Unit (JSHU) of the British Base Cyprus has activated its plan to track their contacts,” the announcement adds.

It is noted that both show only mild symptoms and remain self-restrained in Akrotiri.

In addition, the statement stresses that all passengers arriving at Akrotiri are monitored and the authorities take all necessary actions.

“We want to reassure everyone that we have a strong plan to protect our people,” the BB say, indicating that upon arrival all British nationals arriving from the UK to Akrotiri are self-restrained for 14 days.

It should be noted that it has not been ascertained, by BB, whether these two cases are included in the number of the 7 new confirmed cases announced today by the Ministry of Health.
