A serious cyberattack took place in the Open University of Cyprus, according to the Rector, Petros Passiardis, who spoke about the incident.
First, he said that since yesterday they have realized that there is a serious incident of cyberattack at the University and the central services of the University are not accessible until the incident is investigated.
He added that so far they are not aware of the extent to which the University has been affected, while an internal management committee was created for this crisis and an effort is being made to manage the issue in the best way possible.
He clarified that access is not provided to the University’s website, but neither to the distance learning platform, which is the University’s operating superpower.
He also said that he will have a meeting, while qualified personnel are working internally to see how to restore the distance learning platform. The incident is similar to the one that occurred a few weeks ago at the University of Cyprus. Due to the severity of the situation, the restoration of operation will be slow and will take several weeks.
Mr. Passiardis stated that they have drawn up a plan to immediately restore the distance learning platform.
