The official celebration of the Archangel Michael, the patron saint of the Air Force, took place today at the “Andreas Papandreou” Air Base in Paphos.

The celebration was attended by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Charalambos Petridis, the Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Demokritos Zervakis, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Defence Committee, Mr. Marinos Sizopoulos, and a small delegation of National Executives.

In his statements, mr. Petridis stated that the aviation staff makes us proud, with its high sense of responsibility and professionalism. He added that the strategy of the defence alliances that we implement, makes the role of aviation even more important.

In compliance with all the measures provided by the health protocols for protection against the coronavirus, the celebration this year took place without the presence of the public and without the established airshow of recent years at the “Andreas Papandreou” Air Base.

As part of the celebration, three flocks of AW-139, Mi-35 and Gazelle helicopters flew throughout the free territory of the Republic of Cyprus.
