NATO decided today to extend Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg’s term by a year, preferring to retain an experienced leader rather than trying to agree on a successor while the war in Ukraine rages.

Stoltenberg, a former Prime Minister of Norway, took over as NATO Secretary General in 2014 and his term has already been extended three times.

“Honored by NATO Allies’ decision to extend my term as Secretary General until 1 October 2024,” he wrote on Twitter.
