The motives of the perpetrators of the bomb attack on the home of a high-ranking National Guard Officer in Larnaca are being investigated by the Police.
The criminal act has raised concerns to the Authorities and especially to the ranks of the National Guard, since the possibility that the bombing is related to the professional activities of the 55-year-old Officer has not been ruled out.
The explosive device had been placed at the entrance of the 55-year-old Officer’s house and detonated a few minutes after 1:00 am on Monday. The explosion damaged the entrance and two vehicles parked in front of the house. Fortunately, both the officer and his wife who were at home at the time were not injured.
Members of the Police rushed to the scene, cordoned it off, and began their investigations. Yesterday morning extensive tests were carried out in the house by bomb disposal teams, who collected evidence that was sent for forensic tests. The explosion was found to have been caused by a high-powered, improvised explosive device.
According to information, both the 55-year-old and his wife stated that they do not suspect who might be behind the bombing, since they have not received threats from anyone recently. For this reason, the Police consider all scenarios likely, looking for evidence on the case through CCTV footage of the area.
It is expected that statements, both from the Officer’s professional and personal environment, will be collected for the case.
