According to an announcement by the Hellenic Army General Staff, the 14th International Military Music Festival “Spasskaya Tower 2021” ended on Sunday, September 5, 2021. The Festival commenced on August 17, with the participation of the Hellenic Army Supreme Military Support Command (ASDYS “THESEUS”) and a unit of the Hellenic Army Academy.
The Greek participation, which included evening performances in the Red Square and morning appearances in various parts of the Russian capital, consisted of 32 executives of the Military Music Branch of “ASDYS” – “THESEUS” and 20 Military Academy Cadets in anniversary military uniforms from various periods of the Greek history, thus honoring the 200th anniversary of the 1821 Revolution.
According to the announcement of the Hellenic Army General Staff, the Festival, which was attended by 29 military orchestras from 5 countries (Russia, Greece, Belarus, Mexico and Qatar), had over 25,000 viewers, while the closing ceremony was broadcast live by the Russian television station TV Center and the Russian social network VKontakte.
Particularly moving was the moment when pieces of the great Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis were heard, who breathed his last during the festival. The great composer was honoured at the festival, especially by the Russian authorities, while his portraits were displayed near the Greek flag.
