Once again the Turkish President, Tayyip Erdogan, reiterated that the position Turkey maintains regarding the Eastern Mediterranean is correct, while noting that despite the challenges of Greece and Cyprus, Turkey has maintained its composure. At the same time, the President made no reference to the resignation of Berat Albayrak, the Finance Minister.

Meanwhile, statements on the resignation of Berat Albayrak are expected after the meeting of the Central Committee of the ruling party, which will be chaired by Tayyip Erdogan.

Speaking at the 12th Congress of Ambassadors in Ankara, the Turkish President said that “our country, which has the burden of any development in the eastern Mediterranean on its shoulders, certainly does not accept to be ignored when it comes to natural resources.”

“Despite the challenges of Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration in southern Cyprus, we have always maintained our patience and composure on the issue of the eastern Mediterranean,” he said.

Our country, he added, “regarding this issue, moves with the confidence secured by the fact that it is right. We never leave the negotiating table.”

He expressed hope that “the EU will soon be freed from the strategic blindness that has alienated Turkey.”

According to the President of Turkey, “it must be understood that the language of threat and blackmail is useless. Our proposal for a conference of the coastal countries of the eastern Mediterranean in which the Turkish Cypriots will also participate shows our desire for a solution through dialogue.”
