Ministry of Defence | Agreement on joint exercises with France and Lebanon

An agreement on bilateral defence and security cooperation programs was signed today, Thursday, May 7, 2020, between the Ministry of Defence and representatives of France and Lebanon. 

The programs concern the conduct of activities in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and in the territory of France and Lebanon respectively.

Among other things, when conditions allow, joint Special Forces Exercises, Cooperation between the Larnaca and Lebanon Coordination and Rescue Centers as well as Naval Exercises with France are planned within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Republic of Cyprus.

The programs were characterized by all parties involved as a tangible proof of the will of the two countries for further deepening and strengthening of their cooperation in the fields of defense and security with the Republic of Cyprus.

In particular, the Agreement with France is another strong indication of the practical support and assistance to the Republic of Cyprus in defending our rights within the EEZ.

The agreement on the programs on the Lebanese and French sides was signed by the Defence Attaches of the countries in Nicosia and the Agreement was signed by the Director of Defence Ministry Staff on behalf of the Ministry of Defence.
