93.4% of the 2021 class conscripts submitted their details and certificates on the electronic platform. This shows an increase compared to last year, when the electronic submission reached 90%, said the Press Spokesman of the Ministry of Defence, Lieutenant Colonel Christos Pieris.

At the same time, he stated that on July 15, “the inviolable electronic enlistment selection system will run to place the new recruits in the National Guard Units,” while on July 19, “we will be able to carry out the enlistment process as last year, and within the day, by noon, the conscripts will go to their Units for their military service.”

“We are very happy with the online enlistment this year. We see that the new recruits have understood the process and support this new enlistment method, which will be institutionalised,” stressed Mr. Pieris, who noted that the whole process was completed on May 31st.

He added that the increase compared to last year is due to the fact that “if the recruits’ choices did not appear on the electronic statement, then they would not be able to serve in Special Corps (Special Forces, Underwater Demolition Team, Military Police) and Cadets.”

He also said that “last year the selection procedure for the Special Corps was carried out after the enlistment, resulting in some gaps in Units with an increased number of successful Special Corps candidates, so we were forced to make internal transfers a week later.”

“This will not be the case this year because we will know in advance who has successfully enlisted in the Special Corps, so following internal transfers will not be needed,” he noted.

Regarding the procedures that will follow after the submission of the recruits’ details, Mr. Pieris said that things are easier this year than last year, as all the selection procedures will be carried out before the enlistment, which will commence on July 19th and will end on July 26.

Indicatively, Mr. Pieris stated that on June 22 both the medical examination and the provision of footwear and clothing will take place. This will last until July 2 and then, on July 5-6, the selection process for cadet reserve officers will take place.

He added that on July 7, the sports test for the Special Corps, the Underwater Demolition Team, Military Police and Special Forces will be held.

Finally, Mr. Pieris told CNA that “the enlistment of those with deferred military service because of medical problems will take place on July 12 and 13 in Larnaca to conclude who will be in the position to serve.”
