Minister of Defence | Participation in informal EU Foreign Affairs Council

According to a press release of the Ministry of Defence, the Minister of Defence, Mr. Charalambos Petridis, is travelling today to Ljubljana to participate in the informal Defence-Minister-level EU Foreign Affairs Council. 

During the meeting in the Slovenian capital, the Defence Ministers of the Member States will discuss a variety of issues. Recent developments in Afghanistan will be discussed and the debate on the development of the EU Security and Defence Compass Strategy will continue, focusing on ways to strengthen the resilience of Member States and EU civilian structures in the areas of hybrid threats, cyber warfare, maritime security, communications, climate change and crisis management. 

The meeting will also discuss the latest developments in areas where the EU has developed operations and missions, and in particular in sub-Saharan Africa, Mozambique, Libya and the Western Balkans. 

The meeting will end with a working lunch, in the presence of the NATO Secretary-General and the UN Assistant Secretary-General, where they will discuss the enhancement of cooperation between the three organisations on issues of common interest.
