According to information from DEFENCE ReDEFiNED, Mr. Michalis Georgallas is expected to take office at the Ministry of Defence.

Who is who

Michalis Georgallas was born in Marathovounos on March 20, 1968. He speaks Greek and English and studied Chemical Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Later, he pursued postgraduate studies in Chemical Engineering at the same university and is currently working as a Chemical Engineer.

He is married and has a son.

Political path

Mr. Georgallas was the communication and media secretary of the European Party (EVROKO) between 2006-2010. Between 2010-2015 he was the party’s press spokesman, whereas from 2013 to 2016 he served as Deputy President of EVROKO. In 2016 EVROKO merged with Solidarity. Since then, Michalis Georgallas has been a member of the executive secretariat of Solidarity.

In the 2016 parliamentary elections, he was elected for the first time as an MP in the Electoral District of Famagusta with Solidarity for the 11th Parliamentary Period.

As a Member of Parliament, he was Solidarity’s representative in Parliament, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources, a member of the Parliamentary Committees on Finance and Budget, on Education and Culture, on the Environment, and of the Ad Hoc Parliamentary Committee on the Review and Modernization of the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament.

In addition, he was an alternate member of the Parliament’s delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. Finally, he ran for re-election in the 2021 parliamentary elections but was not re-elected.

At this point, it should be noted that the official announcement of the new cabinet is expected later today.
