Established on May 25th, 2010, the 460th Search & Rescue Squadron (SQR) was formed after the Republic of Cyprus took sole responsibility for the Search and Rescue (SAR) mission.

The Squadron has a total of four (4) types of aircraft. The BN-2B Islander and PC-9 Pilatus, which were initially received by the 450 Helicopter Squadron and the two (2) Bell 206 L3 Long Ranger helicopters that were integrated into the Squadron after the disbandment of the 449 MAE.

Between December 2010 – July 2011, three (3) state-of-the-art 4th generation AW139 helicopters were received and joined the fleet of 460 SQR.
