Joint Tripartite Exercise of Greece – Cyprus – USA Special Operations Forces

In the framework of international collaborations with friendly and allied countries recently coordinated by the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS), a joint exercise will commence on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 between Greece, Cyprus  and the USA. The exercise will focus on Marine and Naval Special Operations (MAROPS/NAVSOF) and it will be held in the wider sea area of ​​Souda in Crete.

The exercise, which takes place for the second time this year in the framework of a tripartite cooperation, involves Special Operations Forces (SOF) from all 3 countries as well as the Underwater Operations Unit of the Hellenic Coast Guard, under the coordination of the Joint Special Operations Command of the HNDGS.

This joint training is part of the overall planning of exercises that have already and continue to take place under the updated Mutual Defence Cooperation Agreement (MDCA) with the US, in order to improve levels of cooperation, coordination and execution of operations in the highly demanding environment of the Central and Eastern Mediterranean. At the same time, it highlights the long-term strong ties between the participating countries, which are constantly strengthening.
