Indonesia has unveiled its new KSOT-008 AI-driven, autonomous submarine as part of its ongoing naval upgrade and modernisation programme.

On the sidelines of the 80th anniversary military parade of the Indonesian Armed Forces, state-owned PT PAL Indonesia presented the KSOT-008.

The KSOT-008 has been designed primarily for surveillance and underwater threat detection missions, and is capable of remaining submerged for up to 72 hours at a maximum speed of 20 knots. Furthermore, it can be remotely operated from a distance of up to 320 kilometres via a mobile control centre.

The submarine is equipped with six new-generation 533mm Black Shark torpedoes and an advanced, high-precision navigation system, enabling it to engage multiple underwater targets with exceptional accuracy.

At the same time, the KSOT-008 can be configured in several operational variants:

  • a submarine purely for surveillance,
  • a “kamikaze” attack submarine,
  • as a platform capable of carrying two heavy torpedoes to neutralise high-value targets.

All variants of the KSOT-008 will be remotely controlled and operated throught satellite communications and network systems.
