India has eventually halted talks with Russia on the supply of 10 Kamov Ka-31 helicopters. The agreement on the procurement of 10 early warning helicopters for more than 496 million euros has eventually been terminated by the Indian side. The reasons, according to international media, concern the Russian side’s credibility in the execution of orders, issues related to payments and pressure due to the war in Ukraine.

Kamov Ka-3 technical characteristics:

  • Length: 12.5 m
  • Height: 5.6 m
  • Gross weight: 12.5 tons
  • Maximum speed: 250 km/h
  • Crew: 2 people
  • Main rotor diameter: 2 × 15.9 m
  • Cruise speed: 205 km/h
  • Range: 600 km

The Indian side is now turning to domestic options, but the suspension of negotiations with Rosoboronexport will delay the plans of the Indian Navy to support the INS Vik aircraft carrier with these helicopters, which will probably be put into service in July. It is worth noting that the country’s Navy already has at its disposal 14 Ka-31 helicopters.
