According to an announcement by the National Guard General Staff (GEEF), in the framework of the annual exercise “IASON / 2021”, which is conducted with the participation of Air Forces from Cyprus and Israel, a Joint Search and Rescue Combat Exercise was held with the participation of forces of the National Guard and the Israeli Air Force (IAF).
The exercise scenario included a virtual downing of a friendly helicopter in an enemy area, survival operations of pilots in enemy territory, a process of locating and rescuing pilots conducted by a rescue team.
The participation of our personnel in this exercise, in addition to the enhanced experience it provides, contributes significantly to the increase of operational capabilities of both aircraft and search and rescue capabilities. Furthermore, the conduct of similar exercises, along with the implementation of the Defence Cooperation Program between Cyprus and Israel, reflect the excellent cooperation between the Armed Forces of the two countries.
