The first meeting of the Standing Holy Synod of the Church of Greece was held the day before yesterday, under the chairmanship of the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Ieronymos.
The Archbishop and the members of the Synod welcomed the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, to whom they donated four state-of-the-art Thermal Imaging Systems, worth 40.000 euros, which will be used to shield the Greek-Turkish border.
The announcement of the Standing Holy Synod:
“The Standing Holy Synod of the Church of Greece of the 163rd Synod Period, chaired by His Beatitude the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Ieronymos, met today, Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at its first Session in June.
His Beatitude the President and the Members of the Board welcomed the Honorable Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, who was offered four (4) state-of-the-art Thermal Imaging Systems worth € 40.000,00, as a donation from the Church of Greece. The said systems will be used to shield the Greek-Turkish border. The relevant addresses and thanks preceded.
Also, regarding the publications entitled “Business conducted between Archbishop Ieronymos and NGO for the creation of an immigrants reception center in Nea Peramo in the area of Megara” and the ”concession by the Church of Greece of a similar space for the above purpose”, the Standing Holy Synod declares responsibly that no such concession was made by the Church of Greece to the competent State bodies and that no relevant decision was ever made to that effect. In addition, it expresses its support for the just reaction of the people and the inhabitants of the area on this issue, which is due to misinformation.”
