German defence company Helsing has announced the production of 6,000 HX-2 loitering munitions for Ukraine.

This follows a prior order of 4,000 HF-1 systems, which are  currently being delivered in collaboration with Ukrainian industry.

The HX-2, introduced in 2024, is an electrically propelled X-wing loitering munition of high precision, with a range of up to 100 km. According to the company, its advanced Artificial Intelligence-driven (AI) system provide full resistance to electronic warfare, allowing it to operate in demanding battlefield conditions.

As part of Helsing’s Altra recce-strike software, multiple HX-2 systems can form swarms controlled by a single human operator. The system has been designed for mass production at a lower cost than conventional alternatives, addressing a growing capability gap in modern warfare.

In addition to the increased loitering munition production, Helsing has completed its first Resilience Factory in Southern Germany. These high-efficiency manufacturing facilities are intended to provide European nations with indigenous production capabilities.

Helsing aims to establish Resilience Factories across Europe, ensuring scalable production in times of conflict. The first facility, RF-1, has already begun operations and has a monthly capacity of over 1,000 HX-2 drones.

With the expansion of production and new manufacturing facilities, Helsing is positioning itself as a player in modern military technology. The company’s strategy aims to strengthen European defence capabilities while supporting Ukraine’s ongoing war efforts.
