Germany’s Budget Committee approved the purchase of an additional 20 Eurofighter fighter jets for approximately €3.75 billion, according to the Ministry of Defence.

The so-called Batch 5 (Tranche 5) Eurofighters are scheduled to be delivered to the German Air Force (Luftwaffe) between 2031 and 2034. In total, the committee approved 14 proposals exceeding €25 million, which is the threshold for expenditure parliamentary approval.

Throughout the year, further large-scale armament projects will be submitted to the German Bundestag in order to maintain the positive momentum in procurement for the operational readiness of the Bundeswehr and to ensure that soldiers are equipped according to their needs, the Ministry of Defence added in its statement.

The German government has sought parliamentary approval for a total of 81 defence programmes, including the purchase of Puma infantry fighting vehicles, Boxer armoured personnel carriers, unmanned systems, and plans to modernise Taurus cruise missiles.
