Fire Service Autonomy | Polyvios Hadjivassiliou’s satisfaction – “Every new beginning is inevitably difficult”

In his message, the Deputy Director of the Cyprus Fire Service, Polyvios Hadjivassiliou, expressed his utter satisfaction with the fact that on April 23, 2021, the Fire Service Law was voted by the Plenary Session of the Parliament. The Law paves the way for the autonomy of the Fire Service.
In detail:
“I want to express my absolute satisfaction with the fact that on April 23, 2021 the Fire Service Law was voted by the Plenary Session of the Parliament, evolving and making the Fire Service an autonomous, independent body that can tackle today’s responsibilities, tomorrow’s obligations with flexibility and professionalism and can design and meet the demands of the future in the face of the increasingly complex challenges of modern society.
I am absolutely convinced that the timeless vision of all of us is the establishment of the Fire Service as a modern, combative body with the provision of a high level of services. Vigilance for immediate and effective response to any type of fire or other man-made, technological or natural disasters is considered a Strategic Objective of utmost importance for the Fire Service and undoubtedly creates a safe social environment that strengthens trust in the public and the society. We will certainly continue to maintain our excellent and noble cooperation with the Police, which will continue to support us in various ways.
Undoubtedly, “every new beginning is inevitably difficult”. The cooperation of all of us is considered to be of utmost importance, in order to draw up a single line of operational and administrative orientation for the formation of a long-term decision-making framework, with the aim of fully and efficiently fulfilling the mission of the body.
The contribution of each one of us to this difficult phase of restructuring and creation of this autonomous, new building must be stable and substantial in all respects, aiming at the evolution, modernization, effective functionality and improving efficiency of the services offered primarily to the citizen, at any time when assistance is requested across the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.
I take for granted the support of all of you and each of you individually, so that we can work consciously and responsibly during this difficult period for the strengthening and continuous quality upgrade of the Fire Service in today’s society.”
