The Armenian Ministry of Defence claimed that Azerbaijani forces opened fire near the border and in the village of Yeraskh.

According to local sources, the head of the Yeraskh village administration, Rudik Odikyan, was injured during an exchange of fire.

“On July 19, at 6:40 pm, the Azerbaijani armed forces opened fire on Armenian positions camped on the border near the village of Yeraskh, for several hours with machine guns of different calibers. Mortars were also used,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry added that the Azerbaijani leadership is responsible for the recent escalation in the region.

On the other hand, two hours after the incident in Yeraskh, the Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan reported that there were bombings from the Armenian region in the Sadarak area of Nakhichevan. Neither ministry reports any casualties.

“On July 19, at 20:50, the positions of the Azerbaijani Army towards the Sadarak region of the ‘Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic’ came under fire once again with weapons of different calibers from the territory of Armenia,” the statement said.

The situation on the border areas is steadily deteriorating. Fire exchanges are recorded on a daily basis, while the number of victims is increasing. In the midst of the ongoing escalation, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called on Russia and the CSTO to help resolve the situation.
