Two Turkish-Cypriots and a British woman were arrested on Sunday afternoon at the Evros Gardens Border Crossing Point, while trying to smuggle an entire arsenal into our country.

Specifically, in an organized operation by the Hellenic Police and in particular by the policemen of the Alexandroupolis Police Security Sub-Directorate, they found the perpetrators driving in a car and entering the country from the Gardens Border Crossing Point.

Then, in a vehicle check they carried out with the assistance of the explosives detection dog “Maya” of the Alexandroupolis Security Sub-Directorate and customs officials, they located 45 pistols in a specially-designed cache in the boot of the car.

Along with the weapons, 18 packs of cigarettes without the special duty tape, 27 coins and 10 parts of coins were also found. An investigation as to whether these items fall under antiquities legislation is being carried out.
