The Minister of Citizen Protection, Takis Theodorikakos, visited Evros and inspected the implementation of the “Akritas” plan. In Feres, he received five new specially-equipped armored vehicles, which shall enter service with the Greek Police for effective border guarding. Mr. Theodorikakos made the following statement:

The “Akritas” Plan entails, among others, the extension of the fence along the entire Greek-Turkish border in Evros, the strengthening of our personnel with 250 new border guards and the strengthening and upgrading of electronic surveillance means. Five new vehicles are already being stationed, he added, as of today, which enhance our deterrent capability.

The Minister emphasized that through the “Akritas” Plan, Greece sends a clear message of national determination against those who, by investing in human suffering, attempt to promote secret and foreign pursuits and against those who, attempt to blackmail Europe itself by using immigration as a tool.

Finally, he said that all Greeks remain united and committed to respecting our sovereign rights, international obligations and human life itself.
