More and more companies are introducing unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) which are force multipliers mainly for ground forces.
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) unveiled the Rex MK II unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) at Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2021, being held in London on September 14-17.
The 4×4 all-wheel hybrid electric vehicle is designed to provide logistic support, gather intelligence, and conduct remote attacks, IAI said in a September 13 press release.
Technical features
- Supports up to 1.25 tons of payload
- Electric hybrid system
- Range 300 Km (~70Km electric stealth)
- Tele-Operated beyond Line of Sight (LOS)
- “Follow-me” mode and fully automated
- Can be easily transported by an MV-22 or CH-47F
The multi-mission Rex MK II is intended to support infantry ground forces in various stages of fighting. This includes providing tactical logistical assistance to troops by carrying munition supplies, critical medical equipment, water, and food, as well as evacuating injured personnel on stretchers.
Not only can the system gather intelligence through a situation-awareness system that incorporates electro-optical sensors and radar, but it can also provide tactical Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (ISR) as well as operate lethal weapons through target acquisition.
The Rex MK II also enables conducting attacks by using remotely controlled weapon systems including a 7.62mm machine gun, a 0.5-0cal heavy machine gun, while as a multi-mission multi-purpose platform it can support additional missions based on troops’ needs.
The Rex MK II can be operated autonomously by means of a “follow-me” driving mode adapted for infantry forces or by a single operator using wireless communication.
