In an announcement, the Police Association states the position that the guard of politicians is done only by special police officers of their choice after special training by the Police and not by graduates of the Police Academy.
“Guards, escorts, drivers should only be Special Police Officers of those being guarded following the approval, training, supervision, special training of the Police at the expense of the salaries of the guarded political leaders with additional funds they receive from the state,” the Association said, noting that this has been the position of the Cyprus Police Association since 2015.
“Police officers who will be released should be transferred to positions according to their qualifications such as in rural police stations or in other services or departments of our Police such as the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN), the CID, the traffic police or other crime prevention services,” the Association added, among others.
