The Ministry of Justice and Public Order of the Republic of Cyprus has ordered ten (10) new Fast Patrol Vessels from Finnish Kewatec.

These are aluminum-hulled RIB-type vessels with foam fenders and a speed capability exceeding 50 knots. They are a new model called Kewatec SAR 850 and will be handed over in the second half of 2024.

According to a statement from the shipbuilding company, a new ten-vessel contract was signed in Nicosia, Cyprus on March 1st in the presence of the company’s local agent and the Government of Cyprus.

The vessels are designed for several operational needs such as patrolling, sea rescue, special missions, and coast guard. The vessels will patrol the coastal areas of Cyprus and territorial waters up to 24 nautical miles from the nearest shore.

The Kewatec SAR 850 is a self-righting monohull boat (DEEP-V), 8.5 meters long and 3.2 meters wide, surrounded by a closed-cell foam-filled fender. Also, the vessel features twin Mercury V10 350 hp outboard engines, which are a new series from Mercury Marine.

The vessels will be manufactured at the company’s shipyard in Porvoo, Finland.
