A targeted cyber attack on a service provider for check-in and boarding systems disrupted operations at several European airports on Saturday morning, causing delays and cancellations at Brussels, Berlin and Heathrow, airlines reported.
Collins Aerospace, which provides airline check-in and boarding systems at many airports worldwide, is experiencing a technical issue that could cause delays for departing passengers, London Heathrow Airport – Europe’s busiest – announced today, warning of disruptions.
The attack disabled automated systems, leaving only manual check-in and boarding procedures available, according to Brussels airport.
At the same time, it confirmed that ten flights had been cancelled and seventeen were delayed for more than an hour. Passengers scheduled to travel on Saturday were advised to check with their airlines before heading to the airport.
EasyJet stated that it did not expect the issue to affect its flight schedule for the remainder of Saturday, even as major European airports reported delays caused by the cyber attack.
