Commission | “The EU timeline for Turkey is clear”

The leaders of the member states will decide at the December summit which direction they will take regarding Turkey, said the representative of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Peter Stano, during the daily press briefing, emphasizing that “everything is on the table”.
“We have started working on the positive agenda and the necessary preparation as well as the Conference for the Eastern Mediterranean, but we continue to monitor the situation, the actions of Turkey. The European Council will re-evaluate the directions we will take in terms of our relations with Turkey. Everything is on the table,” said Peter Stano.
In addition, Mr. Stano noted that “nothing has changed in terms of the timeline, which means that the leaders of the EU and EU Member States will meet at the next European Council in December and will review if Turkey has delivered on their expectations.”
He added that “their expectations were in favor of de-escalation and a commitment to a constructive dialogue. It will not be reviewed in the context of one announcement or in the context of one action, but on the basis of actions, announcements and behavior over a period of time. As I said, the timeline is clear and this is the December Summit.”
