The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, participated on Monday, 13 October 2025, in the summit for the signing of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the return of hostages, held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

In his statements after the “Peace Summit”, the President of the Republic said that he had outlined and presented three areas in which the Republic of Cyprus could develop six specific initiatives, based on the plan of the US President, Donald Trump. The Cypriot proposal concerns six initiatives in the fields of security, reconstruction and the humanitarian sector.

On 14 October, during the conference of the Academy of the Legal Service, the President of the Republic underlined that, despite the fact that “there were some who did not want the Republic of Cyprus to be there, we were represented, invited by both the American President and the President of Egypt.”

He added: “It is important that we were very specific, as we were in October 2023 in Paris, when we first presented the “Amalthia” initiative — and the first to question it were, unfortunately, at home.”

He also mentioned that, within the framework of the Summit in Egypt, the topic discussed with the American President was the Cyprus issue.
