The current situation, in relation to immigration in Cyprus and the problems arising from the increased migration flows, was discussed today during the meeting between the Chief of Police, Serifos Papatheodorou, and the Regional Director of FRONTEX (European Border and Coast Guard Agency), Grigoris Apostolou.
According to a statement issued by the Police, during the meeting, which took place at the Police Headquarters, the strengthening of the beneficial cooperation between the Cyprus Police and FRONTEX as well as how to further strengthen the support offered by this Agency in Cyprus, especially in terms of the return of third-country nationals to their countries of origin, were discussed.
The FRONTEX Agency coordinates the operational cooperation of the Member States for the protection of the EU external borders.
The Agency is also responsible for coordinating the activities of the Member States, in order to effectively manage the crossing of the external borders and to address the migration challenges, contributing to the fight against serious forms of cross-border crime, ensuring a high level of internal security within the EU.
