The European Council President Charles Michel stated today that Turkey “for now” has not chosen the path of a positive agenda that was offered. Furthermore, Michel announced that the 27 Member states condemned Turkey’s recent unilateral action in the Eastern Mediterranean, the provocations and rhetoric which are “completely unacceptable” and warned that the 27 will examine the issue in December.
Specifically, the President of the European Council, speaking to the press after the 27th teleconference, said: “I would like to mention Turkey, because we mentioned Turkey today, and as you know, we had a strategic discussion in October on the Eastern Mediterranean and the relationship with Turkey.”
“We expressed our determination, we are respected and we agreed to work in two paths, one positive and one less positive. We offered a clear way to work for a positive agenda with Turkey.”
“Turkey has not chosen this path so far and we condemn the recent unilateral action in the Eastern Mediterranean, the provocations and rhetoric that are completely unacceptable,” he said.
“We will have the opportunity to return to this issue in December,” he concluded.
