Special Police Officers are now entitled to sick leave equivalent to the one valid for the other members of the Police Force with retroactive effect as of 1/1/2018.

The Chairman of the Legal Committee, George Georgiou, said that the Commission has unanimously corrected another unequal treatment.

“The Special Police Officers are now entitled, like other members of the Police, to 42 days of paid sick leave. Upon the recommendation of the Medical Council, they will be given a six-month extension, while for an additional six-month extension 50% of their earnings will be cut. It was something that was unfortunately in violation of any principle of equality and treatment of members of the Cyprus Police Force,” he said.
