The first fifth-generation fighter jet, the F-35A Lightning II, has been delivered to the Belgian Armed Forces.

In a ceremony held at Florennes Air Force Base, the Belgian Air Force officially received from the United States its first F-35 aircraft. Belgium decided in 2018 to procure 34 F-35 fighter jets, while a decision is still pending on the order of an additional 11 aircraft.

Present at the reception ceremony was the Chief of the Hellenic Air Force General Staff, Vice Admiral (I) Demosthenes Grigoriadis. The arrival of the first F-35 aircraft was broadcast live online by the Belgian Ministry of Defence.
