ARQUUS’s participation in “BATTLEFIELD ReDEFiNED 2023”, the 1st International Defence and Security Conference in Cyprus proved to be multi-layered, with special interest in the National Guard.

Taking part in two of the four sessions of the Conference, Mr. Arnaud de La Serraz, the company’s Sales Manager for the Southern European geographic region, elaborated in his presentations on how the ARQUUS portfolio perfectly keeps pace with modern security and defence challenges.

Initially speaking during the “Multi-Domain and Network Centric Operations – Trends and Solutions” session, through his presentation entitled “From 6 wheels vehicle to multi sensors platform”, Mr. Arnaud de La Serraz focused on the role of wheeled vehicles on the modern battlefield.

At first, the ARQUUS representative stated that modern warfare is not only based on the principles of mobility, firepower, and protection. Currently, the existence of systems and subsystems in the form of sensors is a necessary condition, which not only vertically increases operational and technical value, but also efficiency.

Specifically, ARQUUS practically applies the saying “know the enemy and know yourself” of the Chinese General and Strategist Sun Tzu by integrating sensors on its platforms which can offer optimal detection, identification, communication, and situational awareness capabilities.

According to the ARQUUS executive, seeing, confirming, and sharing are paramount before engagement. As an example, Mr. Arnaud de La Serraz referred to the well-known 6X6 wheeled Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) VAB MK3, older versions of which have also served in the National Guard since 1984.

The system in question provides the crew with real-time information. At the same time, the sensors’ data is immediately available to the effectors, always provided that the personnel on board are not jeopardized.

Then, Mr. Arnaud de La Serraz participated in the “Armed and Security Forces Synergies” session with his presentation entitled “Counter-terrorism specific response based on military vehicles”.

Here, the ARQUUS representative began his presentation by talking about the action in the anti-terrorist field, the purpose of which is to rescue lives, the avoidance of collateral damage, and the swift action to avoid “the CNN effect”, in which global television networks play a significant role in determining the actions taken by policymakers and the outcomes of events.

According to the speaker, the following components govern such situations, among others:

  • Newspapers and the internet are teeming with many acts of terrorism;
  • Terrorist attacks very quickly become a national issue and by extension the integrity of a country is at risk;
  • Television channels around the world immediately jump into action by broadcasting news with heightened appeal to emotion;
  • The President, the Prime Minister and all the heads of Defence and Security are fully focused on this issue.

ARQUUS’s contribution and proposed solution to this security problem is the SHERPA family of wheeled Armoured Vehicles.

According to the company, more than 1,100 SHERPA armoured vehicles have been sold in Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and France, operating in various versions integrated on the same chassis either as Army vehicles (Reconnaissance, Station Wagon, Weapon Systems Carrier) or as means of the Police (Special Operations, Anti-Terrorism).

In fact, Mr. Arnaud de La Serraz recalled that the vehicle in question is already combat proven, since its use proved pivotal in ending the terrorist act of the Kouachi brothers on January 9, 2015.

Concluding, the ARQUUS representative did not fail to mention the two successful firings of AKERON MP missiles at the Kalo Chorio Shooting Range in Cyprus, executed on September 29 by a SHERPA Light Tactical vehicle featuring an IMPACT turret, as part of the European Defence Industrial Development Program (EDIDP) LynkEUs for the development of BLOS capabilities at the European level.
