BAE Systems has unveiled its new shiplift and land level repair complex during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the company’s shipyard in Jacksonville, Florida.

This event marks a major milestone in the company’s $250 million investment to enhance its ship repair capabilities and reinforce its position as a key partner to the U.S. Navy and commercial maritime sector.

The new facility will support maintenance and repair operations for Navy vessels based in Mayport, as well as commercial ships arriving at the Port of Jacksonville.

With the ability to lift ships displacing up to 25,000 tonnes and accommodate multiple vessels simultaneously on land for servicing, the complex effectively triples the shipyard’s existing capacity.

BAE Systems’ upgraded shipyard will significantly improve production efficiency, bolster regional maritime capabilities, and promote environmental sustainability. Its completion reflects the company’s long-term commitment to supporting the U.S. Navy while also catering to a wider array of commercial vessels at competitive scale.

Delivered in partnership with Pearlson Shiplift Corporation, Foth Engineering, and Kiewit Infrastructure South Co., the project replaces an 80-year-old drydock that had reached the end of its operational life.

The state-of-the-art shiplift system features a platform measuring 492 feet by 110 feet, offering a more cost-effective and efficient alternative to traditional drydocks. It will be among the ten largest shiplift systems worldwide and the largest in the Americas.

The first vessel lift at the new facility is expected to take place later this month.
