According to the Police, around midnight, a boat with immigrants was found sailing in the sea area off Cape Greco.

Boats of the Port Police rushed to the spot and led the boat with the immigrants to the Ayia Napa marina.

Investigations revealed that the ship was carrying 55 people, possibly from Syria, of whom 36 were men, 5 women and 14 minor children aged from two months to 17 years.

The men remained on the boat, while for humanitarian reasons the women and children were allowed to disembark and spend the night in the Ayia Napa marina.

Later today it is expected that the competent services of the Republic will go to the area so that the immigrants can be tested for coronavirus and then transferred to an accommodation centre.
