According to a police announcement, at around 8.30 last night, a boat carrying nine illegal immigrants off Cape Greco was escorted by the Port and Maritime Police to the Paralimni fishing shelter.

During the subsequent investigation, it was found that the details of a 50-year-old were in the database of illegal immigrants. Specifically, the 50-year-old had been deported from the Republic of Cyprus in 2010 after having previously been sentenced to 15 months in prison for attempting to help third-country nationals enter the Republic illegally. He was arrested and taken into custody.
