At the same time, the President of the Republic decided to appoint Savvas Angelidis, the current Minister of Defence, as Deputy Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus.
The confirmation ceremony of the new Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General will take place on July 10, 2020.
At the same time, according to the announcement, “the President of the Republic wishes to express his warm thanks to the former Minister of Justice and Public Order, Mr. Iona Nikolaou, who, taking into account the completely unsubstantiated and unjustified objections expressed by opposition parties and in order to preserve the prestige of the institution of the President of the Republic, he did not accept the proposal to assume the position of Attorney General.”
Details of the cabinet reshuffle that will follow as well as the dates of confirmation and the assumption of duties by the new officials will be announced within the current week.
