The 2nd phase of an ammunition neutralization operation by the Mine Neutralization Team of the Underwater Demolition Command took place from April 8-23, 2021 in Monemvasia, Laconia.

The neutralization concerns a large number of World War II missiles which are sunk near the jetty in the port of Monemvasia. Neutralizing the missiles involves retrieving them from the bottom, transporting them to a safe designated point where they are neutralized with a controlled explosion.

The operation is carried out in multiple phases until the neutralization of all missiles is completed. All phases of the operation are carried out in collaboration with the Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard, the Hellenic Police and the Municipality of Monemvasia.
