Traffickers are paid for assisting people entering the free areas, while people are transported in vehicles’ luggage compartments.

According to a statement from the Cyprus Police, two persons, aged 27 and 28, were brought before the Nicosia District Court on Monday to facilitate the investigation related to assisting illegal entry into the territory of the Republic of Cyprus. An eight-day detention order was issued against them.

Specifically, yesterday around 8:30 p.m. during a customs control of a vehicle crossing the occupied areas at the crossing point of Agios Dometios heading towards the free territories of the Republic, a 28-year-old man was found in the trunk of a car driven by a 27-year-old man.

Following further investigation, it was found that the 28-year-old had no entry visa or residence permit in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus. During the investigation and interrogations, the 27-year-old allegedly admitted that he received a sum of money from the 28-year-old for his transportation to the free areas. The Nicosia Crime Investigation Department is investigating the case.
