An accident within the limits of the shooting range of Kalo Chorio occurred during a mortar fire this afternoon, resulting in the slight injury of a female professional soldier (SYOP).
According to information, a mortar shell exploded at a short distance (approximately 100m) from the point where the SYOP was performing security duties (to prevent entry to the Shooting Range) resulting in a slight injury to the leg.
According to the statements of the spokesman of the Ministry of Defence, Lieutenant Colonel Christos Pieris, the exact cause of the injury has not been clarified and the incident is being investigated by the National Guard.
Her state of health is not a cause for concern and she will remain in Larnaca General Hospital until she fully recovers.
