Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan warns of a military coup attempt in the country.

Specifically, and according to Reuters, Pashinyan noted that the call of the country’s armed forces for the government to resign translates into an attempted military coup.

He also called on his supporters to gather in the center of the capital, Yerevan.

“I consider the statement of the General Staff as an attempted military coup. I invite all my supporters to Democracy Square. I will address the people soon,” the Armenian Prime Minister posted on Facebook.

According to reports, Pashinyan has already fired the Chief of Staff of the country’s Armed Forces.

Earlier today, according to an Interfax telegram, the army had called on Pashinyan and his government to step down.

The Armenian Prime Minister is facing protests, with his critics denouncing his handling of the new clashes with Azerbaijani forces in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The announcement of the Armenian Armed Forces in detail:

“The General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces expresses its strong protest against the dismissal of the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia without due diligence of national and state interests of the Republic of Armenia, but merely based on personal and ambitious feelings.

The Prime Minister and the Armenian government is no longer able to make adequate decisions in this crisis and the fatal situation for the Armenian people.

The Armenian Armed Forces have patiently endured “attacks” aimed to discredit the Armed Forces of the current government, but there is a limit to everything.

The Armed Forces of Armenia fulfilled their duty with honor, fighting together with the people against the enemy.

Regarding the current situation, the Armenian Armed Forces demand the resignation of the Prime Minister and the Government of the Republic of Armenia, while warning them to avoid the use of force against the people whose children died defending their homeland and Artsakh.

The army has always been on the people’s side and vice versa.”

The announcement of the General Staff is signed by 40 Senior Officers of the Armenian Army.
