Bundestag | Government considers banning “Gray Wolves”
The Federal Parliament has urged the government to take action against the Turkish far-right organization “Gray Wolves” in Germany and outlaw it.
A motion for a resolution jointly tabled by the Christian Democrats (CDU / CSU), the Social Democrats (SPD), the Liberals (FDP) and the Greens, which has been approved by a large parliamentary majority, calls on the federal government to consider the ban of the Ulkucu movement in Germany.
In the justification of the request, the organization is characterized as racist, anti-democratic and anti-Semitic and is described as a “threat to the internal security of the country”. The resolution refers, among other things, to a similar decision recently taken by the French government, with the hope that other countries will follow soon. The annual report of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) for 2019 states that the Ulkucu movement has about 11,000 followers in Germany and is described as “an organization that spreads far-right and nationalist ideas.”
CDU MPs had already called for a ban on its operation a few days ago, noting that “it is the arm of the far-right Turkish MHP party”.
