The French Minister of Defence, Florence Parley, announced in a post on Twitter that Indonesia has officially ordered a total of 42 French Rafale fighter jets.

The contract for Indonesia’s acquisition of 42 state-of-the-art Rafale Fighters was signed at a ceremony held on February 10 in Jakarta in the presence of the French Minister of Defence, Florence Parly, and the Minister of Defence of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, the President and CEO of Dassault Aviation, Eric Trappier, and the Minister of Aviation, Yusuf Jauhari.

The Rafale acquisition for the Tentara Nasional Indonesia Angkatan Udara (Indonesian National Army Air Force) includes a complete turnkey solution, with a comprehensive package that covers aircrew training, logistical support for several Indonesian air bases, and a training center with two full-mission simulators.

Rafale’s unique “omnirole” capability will provide Indonesia with a tool for sovereignty and operational independence, reinforcing its role as a major regional power.

“In the Indo-Pacific, Indonesia is the second country to acquire the Rafale, after India. France has a role to play in this region: it has almost 2 million inhabitants and 9 million km2 (out of 11) of its exclusive economic zone,” said Florence Parly, French Minister of the Armed Forces in a tweet.

At this point, Florence Parley also referred to the continuous “successes” of the exports of the French Rafale fighters, saying that 8 countries have chosen the “gusts of wind” to secure and protect their territorial sovereignty.

Indonesian industry will benefit from a substantial industrial return, not only in the aeronautical sector but also in all the other major areas of cooperation relating to the broad portfolio of dual technologies mastered by Dassault Aviation and its industrial partners, Safran Aircraft Engines and Thales.

This cooperation extends to the naval field, as Indonesia announced its intention to purchase two French-made “Scorpene” submarines.
